I bought one a week or so ago (Dec 15 2022), arrived in 2 days from Amazon, and it worked correctly for one night. One of the control units did not work. I called the number listed in the directions and got a recording to leave number and they'd return the call. I read the above comments and figured I could return to Amazon for a refund. Just for laughs, I emailed the customer service email, and they responded within 12 hours. After some email communication, they sent a replacement control the next day. I don't know what might be going on with their company, but, for me, their customer service was tops, and would not be concerned about a warranty. Things break - my last one lasted for over 7 years. **Q: Can you buy the controllers separately? The controllers now get really hot and my son in law doesn't feel they are safe now.** A: I do not know if you can order controllers separately, but if you can you would have to get them from the manufacturer. But you have to understand that the controller contains a power transformer and transformers generate quite a bit of heat. What is hot to you may not be hot to me. As long as the plastic case has not started to melt it should be alright. The advantage to this electric blanket is that you do not have 110 volts flowing through the blanket, as with most electric blankets. If I remember correctly the voltage is stepped down from 110 volts to 24 volts, making it a lot less dangerous than normal blankets. That step down is what requires the transformer and generates the heat. I have operated my blanket for three years and have even washed the blanket without any problems. I hope this helps. **Q: when i first turn the blanket on, the dial lights up for about 5 seconds, then the light turns off - is the blanket on? anyone else?** A: Just call warranty service and they will replace it, mine just died after 2 years and they are sending a new one. Plug the suspect controller into the other side of the blanket to make sure it isn't the blanket itself. I have used Sunbeam products for much of that time and lived through the era of the clicking controls, etc., with and other similar foibles having been corrected over the years.I viewed the introduction of the microwire products as a clever option and left some time pass to allow perfection of the product. It seems that during this time the quality control of the Sunbeam product began to decline and I had to return several for various defects either in the wiring or the controllers; therefore, I decided to try the new technology, and after some research, I decided on this brand.I waited for about 5 months from the time of purchase to write the review so as to get a reasonable impression of reliability. Not only was I not disappointed, I was truly gratified with my decision.The blanket works on a low voltage format with dual step down transformers on the king model.This greatly reduces the risk of burn or fire. For those who want a toasty hot blanket, this is not the blanket for you, but I would argue that this is not really the purpose of this product which is beautifully designed to provide an adjustable scale of even heat throughout the night. I would suggest that if you need a blast of heat quickly when you go to bed, have small electric hair drier handy to use CAREFULLY for a half minute or so under the co era to provide that instant heat infusion and then let this blanket take over.If you turn the blanket on high setting for about an hour before bedtime, you will find the sheets nicely heated when you retire. The blanket control has an auto shutoff feature at about 10 hours post initial setting time, so if you are planning a long night's sleep, and have set up the preheat at an early hour, I suggest that you turn the controller off and then on again before retiring to initiate a new shutoff cycle so as to avoid a cold bed at the end of sleep.The blanket is made of microfiber and is soft without that that slightly rubbery feeling characteristic of some of those products, and it's fit and finish exudes quality. You barely can perceive the wiring. You can tuck the blanket under the mattress but the connector must be face up; however due to the fragile nature of the electrical wires, that bending is not recommended. Best method is to just drape the blanket over the sheet which works in a maximally flexible manner for orienting the length of blanket available according to taste.I have found that the blanket control works best set at 8-9 for ambient temperatures ranging from 40 -70, on high for lower outside temps , and lower controller temps during the summer season. The two controllers work completely independently of each other.The blanket has worked flawlessly since the initial day of service. I am in the process of ordering a second identical blanket so I'll have it at the ready in the future. I'll post a follow-up at one year to give people a better idea on longterm reliability. It stands to reason that because of the more delicate wiring, more care may be necessary on a day to day basis, particularly sitting omit or folding back on itself for prolonged periods when the current is on.. The blanket works very well, warms up the bed perfectly at just the medium setting and is very comfortable!! No wires that you can feel, the only difference from a regular blanket is just the feeling of a thin sheet of plastic layered within the blanket. We place the blanket on top of a flat sheet, and add a comforter over the blanket to weigh it down, since it is so light. Our child sleeps much, much better and no longer complains about his room being cold at night. Now we do not have to turn the thermostat way up to get his room warm while overheating the rest of the house!I think people who say that their Soft Heat blanket doesn't feel warm at all MIGHT have placed the blanket with the wrong side up. The manual says that the side with the 'Use and Care' instruction label on the blanket should be facing up, and that you must sleep under the blanket to experience the warmth. It is not the same as a heating pad and will not feel warm to the hand's touch.The pre-heating feature can be deactivated by any adjustment of the dial. For example, our blanket is set on level 5, and when we press the 'on' button, we then turn the dial to 6 and back down to 5 where it will stay. This prevents the blanket from preheating to Hi before settling at the level you want. The information is all in the manual -- read it, and the product should work fine for you!This SoftHeat microfleece blanket is made by Perfect Fit Industries (you can google their website to find product manuals). The Amazon website description says 'Luxury' microfleece, but the item I received from Amazon just said 'SoftHeat microfleece blanket' on the packaging, without the word 'luxury', so for those who want to do price-comparisons, I think this is probably the exact same product as 'SoftHeat' blankets sold elsewhere, and I think Amazon has the best price. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This blanket lasts! *by B***B on Reviewed in Canada on February 16, 2024* I've had mine for 2 or 3 years, and one of the controllers stopped working, so I bought a new one for backup. I just took one of the controllers off the new one and plugged it into the old one and it works fine again. I have had many Sunbeam blankets and throws. They never last. They don't even last the whole winter season. This is the only heated blanket I've purchased that's lasted more than 6 months. It's very comfortable, good heat, the wires are thin so it doesn't feel clunky.
