As you know, a swarm does not have food stores, like a normal colony would - and I thought that it was now too late in the season to feed them syrup, which they would not really have time to process. The bees have had about one week of foraging before the weather got in turn cold or rainy, and they can no longer go out. I thought that giving them a protein based food would give them a better chance of surviving the winter. This product is rather new on the market and (other than the seller's praising description, which of course could be biased, potentially) I could only find one comment about it, but it was a very glowing one. So, since syrup and fondant are fairly controversial, I decided to give this option a try. Sorry I can't be of better help, as this product is still new and hardly anyone has yet commented about it. **Q: Is there a shelf life on this product? If I buy some now will it still be ok if needed for the June gap feed?** A: I store mine in fridge flaking off strips daily allowing to become almost liquid inn 24 hours then feed give.
