They work fine. I have found that I needed to use about 3/4 of them to fill my filter and have it work properly. Half a bag just wasn't enough. Basically, I had to fill up my entire filter with them and then I worked fine which is somewhat unfortunate just because I was expecting to have kind of like a spare set but that's fine. Washed them at the end of the season, popped them back in at pool opening -- worked like a charm. This year, I decided to get new ones. Luster balls were on back order, so I tried these. Within a day of replacing them, the water turned cloudy, despite running the filter 12h/day with the chlorinator on. They have a smooth texture, compared to the fuzzy Luster balls, are smaller and seem to just let water run around them rather than through them. The recommended number pf packages was also off -- I ordered 3.5 lbs for the equivalent of 70lbs of sand -- ended up needing to add some of the old fuzzballs back because the recommended quantity was simply not enough.
