They still are very comfortable shoes and I wear them almost every day at some point. The only complaint that I have with these, and other NB shoes is that you cannot keep the shoe clean below the leather. Another words, most, if not all athletic shoes, are wrapped around using the same material that the bottom of the shoe is made of. This material yellows after time and to keep it white, like the rest of the shoe, is near impossible. I have spoken to NB a number of times and they suggest using dawn liquid, or soft scrub, or cleaning wipes, etc. but nothing really works well. Remember when we use to put our dirty sneakers in the wash? They would come out white as new. Well, you can't do that with NB shoes and besides, they still do not come clean around the edges of the shoe if you decide to put them through a wash cycle. That's it! The quality is always superb. These American Made 812s replace the 811 model that was also made in USA. The 812 seems to differ from the 811 only in some minor style changes, except that the sole does look different. There are no other American made athletic shoes that I know of. These shoes have the look of leather but are actually all man made materials. But they don't get hot as might be expected from synthetic shoes. I walk about 3 miles per day and my 811s show very little wear. I bought these 812s to replace an even older pair that is wearing out so I can continue to switch shoes each day.The 811/812 model has a lot of high tech features that aid in walking . They are very cushioned so that my feet don't get tired at all. The roll bar helps prevent twisting the shoe and landing awkwardly. I have a tendency to twist my ankles but with these that almost never happens.To sum up, great fit, very comfortable, long wearing and excellent for walking. Yes New Balance thankfully on the black did not make the N stand out and they are more than acceptable at my work place. I am glad because they are very comfortable. I walk a decent amount during the work day and they are so lightweight I hardly know they are on. But they give good cushioning and support as well.The D are perhaps slightly narrow. But they expanded in no time and are now very comfortable. If you can find San Antonio Shoes or SAS shoes were you live, be sure to try those. They are made in the USA by a small company and are a little pricey. But they are very well made. Well made enough that I had leg pain once in a very standing intensive job on a hard floor and they made the pain go away.
