My 6 year old 32KG Labrador got a sore on his knuckle just above his left front paw. I took him to the vet and they explained that knuckles are very difficult to treat because the skin is so thin over them. As a pup he always pulled out whatever (to lie on) was in his kennel before going to sleep.I kept my eye on him and sure enough I realised he tucked his foot underneath him when lying down. This caused his bare knuckle to be pressed against the floor / mat / whatever he was lying on. So I reckoned I would try this matress. He loved it straight away! It came in a protective plastic cover which I have kept on. Then I have inserted the whole thing into a big plastic woven recycle bag which I can throw out and renew with a fresh one when it gets dirty. It was such a success that I bought another one so I had one for the kitchen and one for his kennel. I let him enjoy / scent the first one then moved it out each evening into his kennel until he got used to it. Knowing it was in his kennel, he would be really happy to head in there and curl up. Dog owners just know when their loved one is totally stoked with something and this is one of those things. His leg totally healed and he is very happy to lie on this brilliant piece of kit. As he lies on it, it slowly sinks into his body shape so causes equal pressure around all his contact points. I got the 3" deep one because he is a big heavy dog and that was perfect. Our staffie (a little hothouse flower who is normally like the princess with the pea when it comes to trying to get her bed comfortable) absolutely loves it and hasn't even made any attempt to chew it. She just lies on top, instantly comfy, it seems, and we put her duvet over her and tuck it in for draughts (yes, I know - we are sad cases) and she has to be dragged out of it to get a wee in the morning. We also have two cats, and they go into her bed and snuggle on it when they get the chance.
