Now the original thing from another world is a straight forward monster movie. With a few intriguing moments. But the John Carpenter remake with Kurt Russell is the better movie, having the monster being a Lovecraftian horror by giving it the ability to mimic anything it devours or infects. Paranoia and tension are big parts of setting the atmosphere and suspense. The gore and special effects are awesome and still hold up today. The prequel is an unappreciated entry by telling the story of the research crew who found the alien in the first film and giving us a awesome final girl in Kate Lloyd being a Ellen Ripley successor.
