I noticed improvements in my mood immediately. I am form Washington and have an IT job that requires me to work in a window-less vault. I arrive to work before sun-rise, work in the vault ALL day and come home when it's dark. I've suffered from depression my whole life, but managed it until recently. I didn't realize how much difference a lamp could make on my mood. FUNCTIONAL PRODUCT.My ONLY draw back is the design of the lap. It is extremely bulky (for a lamp) and having a very basic understanding of electronics, the only thing special about it would be the bulb. You'd think that for a lamp this expensive they could have put more planning in the design. Anyway, back to the important part because I know if you're looking at this lamp you're suffering from similar symptoms as me. Just 30 minutes in the morning in close proximity (~3 feet) while I drink my coffee and I sometimes turn it on near mid-day at work and my boss has noticed a significant improvement in my work performance and customer interaction. It works! It's just a little hard to place on a desk. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best lamp (for me) for SAD *by F***C on Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2013* I purchased a lamp from Northern Lights 14 years ago. It still works with the original bulbs. However, for every year you use this, you lose a bit of light. The bulb sockets in my old one looked a bit dingy, so decided to get a new one. Absolutely love this lamp! The new version is so much better from an aesthetic point of view. Now, this lamp is never going to be stylish. I have it next to my bed so the light is slightly elevated about the bed.The difference from using this everyday as opposed to using another popular lamp, is this one works. Studies have shown for SAD having the light come down from above is more beneficial. The light is a bright white, with no bluish tinge. I use it while drinking coffee and scouring the news every morning anywhere from 30 minutes - 1.5 hours. The reason I use it longer than what is recommended is the light is a bit further away than recommended.Last year I used a different lamp that is extremely highly rated, but around $70. It really gave off a weird fluorescent tone with a bluish tinge. No matter how I used it, it was not for me. Given the fact that this lamp lasted me so long, and the new lamp appears to be of similar exceptional quality, I am glad I spent the extra money.
