I've used the amp dry, effects through the front and via the dedicated effects loop and it performs great on either (I prefer the loop). I'd watched countless YouTube reviews in this model and predominantly play Lynch and Rhoads with some Puppets era Metallica at home and had hoped for some serious high gain as seen, but sadly this amp never delves into 5150 territory, not surprising with the valve configuration. The best cure for this that I've found is to use either a boost pedal (TS or similar) and/or an Equaliser, the later is almost a prerequisite to dial in that tone as I've found it lacking some treble bite to really cut through on the overdrive. Using the amp dry will give you a 'Kill em All' type feel on full gain, with early 80s rock feel when dialled back. The cleans are nice and warm-not too thin but chime well, the reverb is good with a huge range to it. The Morph function on the EQ is great for switching tones and is more useful when you have the Mids up around 7. The power attenuater is great for dropping volume when neeed, but it works best on full-you won't be doing any big gigs without it being miked, but jamming with folks it handles itself just fine through a full sized cab. I would've liked a boost for leads and a second speaker output to power a full stack, but as a home practice amp this more than forfills my needs. I have upgraded the 12AX7 tube from stock (not too bad) to a Electro Harmonics to give a little more Headroom & EQ dynamics-purely to get some more treble and sharpness in the mix. I will also be testing it with a TAD valve at some point. All in all a great home practice amp-very well made, superb on board functions and responds well to effects & mods, could be the best 5watt practice amp out there??? You won't be disappointed...do it! ### ⭐⭐⭐ Not a Bad Amp but needs help coming to life *by S***E on 10 April 2019* It's Ok but 2 things get on my nerves about it. The Clean Channel is too clean and makes pedals sound a bit ordinary and lifeless. Problem is the Clean Channel is just so clean there is not grit at all on it needs a Gain Control. The Gain is only available on the Dirt Channel. So in most cases I find myself running pedals on low Gain settings on the 2nd Dirty Channel which breathes some life into the sound. Keep the Gain low and you are ok. Pristine Clean is not what appeals to me but it may be your thing! The Amp itself is well equipped with Fx loop and Line Out facilities also Aux in but volumes can be problematic using it like thiat requires a fine balancing of volumes. I use a Volume Pedal in my fx loop because even at 0.5 watt Tube power amp is pretty loud but can be managed as I said with a Vol Pedal in fx loop to calm it down a bit to practice level. It's generally a good amp but my feelings are it could be better. Not really convinced by amp alone without pedals in front. Says it emulates either an American Sound or British controlled by Morph Knob however I am not convinced that it soundd anything like either of these. Not enough Grit to be like British Marshall and nothing like a Mesa Boogie. I run pedals in front to make it more of a match. The JOYO Amp sims are closer in tonal details than this Bugera. However that said it's ok and will give you Tube Amp feel and sound. On it's own it leaves you wanting more but put the right pedal in front and added to this it's overall versatility then it gets the OK. Update. A few months ago it developed a problem. It hadn't been used much at all. Sound lost completely on clean channel and just breaks up in an unattractive way in gain /overdrive channel. Problem has been experienced by many users and is well documented on Internet searches. No cure. No lights to indicate tubes worn out. I changed tubes but did not solve problem. Amp is now unusable after only light use. Unreliable. Life span unacceptably short.
