I want to purchase, but need some convincing. Is it reusable?** A: Is any Advent Calendar reusable? [Well, yeah, I guess those wooden ones can; but you have to reload those yourself.] No, this is like the other games in the EXIT series, but in an Advent Calendar format. It's made of... well, I was going to say cardboard, but it's more like really thick card stock. It has 24 doors like most Advent Calendars do. Behind each door you will find a "room", complete with artwork on all sides plus ceiling & floor. More than likely you will find a Riddle Card (or a few) behind each door, but sometimes there are other items, and sometimes nothing at all. It comes with a story book that guides you along the way. It is comparable to the story books that come in the Level 2 exit games (the ones where you're not supposed to turn the page until explicitly told to do so), except it is divided into 26 sections... a prologue that sets the scene, 24 days of story/clues, and an epilogue that wraps up the adventure when you've successfully finished. There is also a Hint Book to help you along if you get stuck. Sad to admit it, but my wife and I had to use it a couple times during play. The decoder is ingenious... unlike the regular EXIT games where it is possible to enter an incorrect code but still get credit for it, I don't think there's any way that can happen with the Advent Calendar. Yes, these are expensive considering there's no chocolates or other goodies. However, think about it. In a normal EXIT game you have to solve 10 puzzles (the 10 symbols on the decoder disc, though I concede that some of them have multiple parts to them). Here you have 24 puzzles to solve, so over twice as many. Another reason they're so expensive is because each one has to be individually hand packed before it can be shipped. Only you can decide how you want to spend your money, so I can't really tell you if it's "worth it" or not; but that said, my wife and I have played both the first one (Mystery of the Ice Cave) and this one (The Hunt for the Golden Book), and I fully intend to purchase The Silent Storm for us this year (2023), too. So for me, at least, it's worth it. **Q: Is this game to be sent the 2021 edition or the 2022 edition?** A: This one was from last year but it’s not 2021 specific. It has days but no specific year so you could play it this year without issue. It’s a really great game! **Q: About how long does it take each day? Are these puzzles like 5 minutes each? 15? 30?** A: 5-10 minutes, though you may also need a flashlight and a magnifying glass. And scissors. You will definitely need scissors. **Q: Is this fun for adults?** A: Absolutely. I’ve played every Exit game out there and they’re all great. This calendar is no exception. Every day you unlock a new puzzle to work on. This was our first experience with a board game style escape room. We've done the in-person escape rooms and enjoy them a lot so we thought we would give this a try. The fact that it is an advent calendar is so fun! What a unique concept (instead of food, candy, or toys - there is a puzzle to solve everyday). The puzzles are incredibly clever and perfect for adults and/or older kids. I am so impressed by how creative the designers of this calendar are. Usually these are Lego calendars, but my 13 year old wanted something different this year. Winter this “breakout” calendar.At first, he was hesitant. It was different to have to think and work through clues instead of just getting a Lego to put together. So this became a nightly thing for his dad and him to work on together. There are 24 different doors and each one has a different little puzzle to solve.If you are familiar with the Exit escape room games you will know how to move through the rooms, but they are easy enough to pick up even if you've never done an escape room before. The puzzles range from very easy to a little tricky, nothing too hard but most always fun.This is the second Exit advent calendar my friends and I have done. They were both so much fun and the puzzles varied. It was surprising how different all the puzzle mechanics are. You are always looking for three numbers to move to the next door but they really are creative with how you get to them.Seriously they are so much fun to do. They are one and done as you have to destroy some things as you go and the puzzles aren't redoable.
