There is a wonderful twist at the end, just when one thinks that everything is tied up neatly, that makes me long for volume 3 to appear. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 注目の３部作　第２弾 *by S***R on Reviewed in Japan on 5 March 2015* Shade and Sorceress に続く、The Last Days of Tian Di ３部作の第２弾です。お勧めです。日本は翻訳大国で、これいいなと思うような児童〜ティーン向けの本（特に英語で書かれている作品）は全てと言ってもいいくらい翻訳されているのですが、そんな中で、The Last Days of Tian Di ３部作はまだ翻訳されていません。それは、このシリーズが、著者イーガンにとって初めての長編小説で、彼女がまだ知られていないという事情があると思います。しかし、物語の細部までたいへんよく練られ、書かれているファンタジーです。まだ知られていない作品を発掘したいと思う方には、ぜひこのシリーズをお勧めします。対象年齢は 9 〜 12 歳となっていますが、それよりちょっと上の読者層から大人の方が楽しめると思います。私の感覚では、子ども向けにしては主人公はじめ登場人物が苦労したり苦悩している場面が少し長めかな、という印象ですが、その分、ハラハラドキドキしたり、彼らに感情移入して、物語に引き込まれます。はじめて英語の原書に挑戦する本としてはちょっと難しめですが、たいへん面白いストーリーなので、どんどん読み進んでしまうこと請け合いです。第１作 Shade and Sorceress の書評にも書いたような気がしますが、著者は日本や中国で教えていた経験があるので、登場人物はじめ物語のそこここに、そんなイメージを思い起こさせる箇所が結構見つかるかもしれません。 ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ GREAT! *by N***A on Reviewed in the United States on 15 December 2013* I loved this. I liked the first one, but this book was so much more complex and engaging -- the characters were really tested, they really had to grow up, and it felt really satisfying and real when they did.
