Please Autism is not a disease and doesn't need 'curing' or 'treatment', it simply means our brains are wired differently than the majority, and we find other things more interesting and comfortable than socialising. Being different is not something that is wrong or shameful. ABA therapy shames Autistics for being themselves and forces them to hide their true selves and voice which later in life will lead to severe mental health conditions and emotional damage. Many of the teachings are psychologically harmful and extremely uncomfortable for autistics to do, such as eye contact etc. It may make Neurotypicals ( including NTs as parents) lives' easier but it will destroy any autistics' self identity, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. It is the NT world that is overwhelming, confusing and unkind that causes such anxiety, meltdowns and depression etc. Stimming is essential for autistics to help prevent meltdowns and help regulate emotion etc, and meltdowns are from social and sensory overload not bad behaviour. Please let Autistics and Autistic Children be autistic! Please! We need to promote acceptance, patience, and understanding not shame or humiliation.
