It comes with a template to help when putting it up. I spread the two 2x4 shelves apart, leaving around six inches between, by doing so I have extra secured space for the lumber I put on top. Good purchase and remember, you are getting the shelves to make a two foot deep and eight foot wide shelving unit. Still not the cheesecake or prime rib, but a great and practical purchase.

**Q: Is it best to put these up directly against drywall? Then into studs? Or is it worth mounting a 2x4 to studs and then attach shelving to this?**
A: We just mounted directly in studs.  Can't speak to what it the best way.  Ours are staying up.

**Q: My studs are 23 inches apart. I’m guessing I can still install the shelves but can’t use the template, correct?**
A: Use metal twist in drywall plugs. I did with no trouble

Quality product and easy to assemble. Hardest part was the self tapping screws use a 13 mm wrench so that might not be a standard hex in a compact drill/screw set. A 1/2 inch or 9/16 inch socket won’t work.
