I bought it not knowing that so am holding on to the one I bought for future use. I was please in the construction so decided to keep it. The seller even sent me back 25.00 for it not fitting a rimmed tank. **Q: Let me see if I understood what I'm reading. So you're saying that if my tank has a plastic surround around my tank I cannot use this, correct?** A: It is made for rimless, but, may still work. The side clamps fit over the tank and there are plastic screws that tighten in.
