Well it doesn't do anything for the hard cushions of the couch, the cover is soft to touch and my cat loves it. It's also easy to disguise the pillows I have to put on the couch to make it softer. Okay so, I can't say I wasn't warned some of the reviews mentioned this couch being being very close to the ground and quite uncomfortable without some sort of padding. But, I bought it anyways because it was small enough to fit in our 5th wheel living room! So, yeah I have to honestly say it is maybe 1ft to 1.5ft from the floor to the bottom of the cushions. And these cushions are awful thin for being a futon. But, for a 5'2 and 5'6 couple in a 5th wheel with a dog and a cat, this couch does fit in perfectly! Once we added proper padding of course! I can say it is structurally sound though!
