Worth every penny. ### ⭐ Failed after one month – stuck in read-only mode and cannot be formatted *by F***B on 12 March 2026* I bought the Crucial X10 Pro 2TB portable SSD less than one month ago and it has already failed. After roughly a month of normal use, the drive suddenly switched to read-only mode. The files can still be read, but nothing can be deleted, and the drive cannot be reformatted. macOS Disk Utility cannot erase it and the drive is now effectively unusable. This appears to be a known failure behavior with SSDs when the controller detects an internal fault, but it means the drive becomes locked and impossible to wipe. I contacted Crucial support expecting a straightforward warranty replacement. Instead, they insisted that the defective drive must be returned in its original condition before they will replace it. The problem is that the SSD contains private and sensitive data that cannot be securely erased because the drive is locked in read-only mode. Crucial’s response was simply that I should send the drive back anyway and trust that they will securely erase it once they receive it. That is not an acceptable solution. Expecting customers to mail storage devices containing personal data when the device itself prevents secure deletion is unreasonable. So in summary: -The drive failed after less than one month -It became read-only and impossible to format -The warranty process requires sending back a drive containing data that cannot be erased -Product rating: 1 star; Customer service: 1 star. Because of this experience, I will not be buying Crucial storage products again.
