I liken it to 80 or 120 grit sandpaper. It would provide good traction, but might be rough on hands in a dry situation like you suggest. (It felt fine on our feet in the shower, although it didn't stick like it was supposed to). **Q: I'm needing something on wooden stairs -sealed and finished wood - to sleeping loft to keep grandsons from falling. Good for this??** A: This tape works really well on a shower base that was super slick when wet...I am pretty sure it will work on stairs...has good traction. **Q: Are the strips removable without the use of sharp tools? Is a residue left behind?** A: You don't need a sharp tool to remove them. Once you are able to life a corner with something like your fingernail, the strips come off without any residue. **Q: I have a walk in Roman shower with smooth small tiles with grout. I've been using it to progressively cover a dangerously slippery marmoleum floor in a bathroom. It works well when wearing socks or in just bare feet, wet floor or dry. It comes in different grits. The "200" grit I bought is comfortable on bare feet and provides good traction. And it stays down. The pieces I put down in December of 2025 are still firmly attached. It's very easy to install. You cut the length you need, then round the corners (to discourage lifting) with a pair of sharp scissors. Peel off a few inches of the backing to get started, and stretch it out, peeling off the backing as you go. Press it down firmly (a wide putty knife will work, or the edge of an old credit card) and you're done.
