I might have liked a bit larger diameter like we used to have back in the old days, but this is good enough and not like those thin 'brush handle' ones. I had no problem whatsoever getting the label off, lift from a corner and it just peeled away. Gave the pin a quick wash and rub down with a cloth, left it to dry then brushed it all over with cooking oil to give it a bit of colour and a seal. It's wood so it will pick oils up from the dough as you use it, but why not give it a good start? Perhaps contact the distributor, as they say it's eco-friendly but don't say why (other than it being wood, I guess). One thing I've noticed is it doesn't warp or absorb water and I've had mine for 7 years.
