You want regular setting ( three bars) quiet and efficient (100% reading). See online instruction manual for how to switch between the two. My unit also came in energy efficient mode and would not heat up sufficiently until I switched to regular setting. A local pool supplier installed it. It works perfectly. The installer had never seen a DR infrared heater before. In fact, when the installer turned on the heater, it was so quiet that they looked at each other and said β€œIt’s not working”.
