Designed specifically for kiteboarders by Oceanus who have designed the EEL. The EEL is an extendable board leash that saves you from loosing and endlessly chasing your board while kiteboarding. The EEL is the latest in the Oceanus line and incorporates a number of popular modifications all wrapped into one unit. It has a re-enforced the feed port of the unit from the inside making this model more similar in size, weight, and appearance to our STANDARD REEL, while offering the increased durability of our Heavy Duty REEL RE-INFORCED model. A snap clip with a 270 pound breaking strength is used to connect the leash to the 30 inch rope extension connected to the board. In place of our standard shock cord is a 30-inch rope extension. This rope extension is doubled over, stitched, then rubberized to toughen it up and better repel water.The rope extension is then attached to the board using your fin screws and the woven connector strap included. Any leashes can be potentially very dangerous or even fatal! Any leash can cause the board to come flying back at you, causing serious damage. It is always safer to not use a leash and learn to use the body drag method to tack back to your board if you lose it. I recommend all newbies first learn body dragging and kiting without a leash. Then you will know what to do in an emergency if your leash breaks or malfunctions. If you later decide to go with a leash, this is the one to get. NEVER USE A LEASH WITHOUT ALSO WEARING A HELMET - and, of course, a helmet is always a good idea when kiteboarding! This leash is much safer than any others I have seen out there. It has a long retractable cord to keep the board clear of you in a fall or drag situation. Yet, it has just enough spring tension to gently bring the board back to you after you have stopped dragging. It's especially nice for keeping your board near you when you are launching or walking your kite along the beach in the water. (You know, those days when there's not enough wind to keep upwind and you have to take the walk of shame back up the beach.) I haven't had a chance to use this leash very much yet, but It seems to work really well on inland lakes. I often kite in an lake with a lot of boat traffic, and having a leash to keep the board with me, allows me to recover from a fall more quickly, and it doesn't allow my board to get separated from me where it can become a potential hazard to boaters, wakeboarders, skiers, tubers, jet skis, etc. I haven't had any hard falls or bad drags yet with this leash on, so I can't say how it will do in these situations. But, any other time, it works really well.
