Review: Great Kayak and great customer support ! - Really impressed with this kayak. I looked at most every inflatable kayak on the market and decided on this one based on construction and value for the price. It seems to have the same qualities as some costing twice as much. I like the drop stitch floor and stiff sides as well as the tough material used in construction. It inflates and deflates quickly even just using the included hand pump. I purchased an electric pump, but actually the hand pump is faster. The color and graphics are also attractive. It looks like a professional kayak and not some toy. The customer support at Oceanbroad is outstanding. These days, you pretty much expect very little when you contact customer service, but Oceanbroad is the exception. We had a concern about the kayak and contacted support. Sue at Oceanbroad responded quickly and completely took care of us. Our emails were answered quickly and she really seemed to care about resolving our problem. Very impressed. Overall, I would definitely buy from them again and look forward to many years with my kayak. Additional to my review. We went on a trip this week to a local lake. First time out on my new kayak. It handled great, the seat was comfortable and had good back support. It tracked really well. When you stop paddling, the kayak goes straight unlike some that will wallow off course. There is plenty of room for gear behind the seat and under the areas at bow and stern. It's light enough to carry over your shoulder. I have other kayaks, rigid sit in, rigid sit on top, but this may be my favorite one now. Overall very pleased.

It handled calm water and a few moderate river rapids excellently. It is very stable and safe enough for my 4yo to sit in the front without any problems. I have not yet had a chance to test the draining valves when the boat gets flooded. The manual inflation pump included was also good quality. It took about 20 minutes to inflate with the manual pump, but I would recommend buying a cheap battery-powered compressor instead. With our powered pump, it only took about 5 minutes to inflate the whole thing. The craft is light enough for an average teenager to carry on their back over 100 yards, no problem. With one rider, there was still plenty of room for a small ice chest and a small live well. The boat held up well in both fresh water and salt water. When it was time to pack up, the entire craft took about 20 minutes to drain, deflate and fold back into the bag for transport. The carrying bag easily fits the boat, the paddle, the seat parts, and two lifejackets, no problem. It's an excellent "swim boat" for ponds, lakes, and moderate rivers. We had lots of fun "surfing" waves at the beach. It was perfect for light tackle bass fishing. Minor issues: It has decent speed in flat, calm water with the keel fin installed; but tracking is generally poor. Amateurs won't care, but it will frustrate more experienced rowers on open water. Without the fin, speed and tracking are greatly reduced. Performance is very poor when sustained winds are over 10 mph. Even with the fin, the average rower will struggle against light breezes on the open water. We tried open water in a stiff breeze around 18 mph and it was almost impossible without maximum sustained effort. Also, the material is good quality, but my experience tells me it might wear out very quickly against rough/jagged rocks in wilderness whitewater conditions. It's not for "sport." Built more for comfort, ease of transport, and medium/low skill rowers.

Good things: Good quality material for the price. Material is high quality and very durable. It handled calm water and a few moderate river rapids excellently. It is very stable and safe enough for my 4yo to sit in the front without any problems. I have not yet had a chance to test the draining valves when the boat gets flooded. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good, stable, fun, nimble (and comfortable if you replace the seat.)

I looked at MANY kayaks and read hundreds of reviews over the last 18 months or so before pulling the trigger on this Oceanbroad offering. Why did I wait so long? Well, I'm not an avid kayaker and just don't know a whole lot about them other than what I read. I wanted to feel secure in my purchase. It seems that some very experienced kayakers really like this one so that reassured me. And the price is less than half of others with similar features and similar ratings. So I finally broke down and bought the darn thing! I wanted an inflatable for obvious reasons. Size. I can toss it in the back of my truck or the trunk of a car and be on my way instantly. I just didn't want to sacrifice too much performance and have my paddling experience feel like chore. I've paddled around in cheap inflatables that sag in the middle and drag so much it's like moving through mud. I've also used the high end kayaks of a friend, so I do have some knowledge of the difference. I'm a 73 year old guy, 6’ 3” and 204 lb. (Oh alright, 210 lbs. But man oh man that key lime pie!) At my size, stability is important. I tried my grandson's solid kayak and couldn't even get in it without falling right into the lake! And once in it, it was so tippy I was sure the first little wave was going to capsize me. So I wasn't having fun. Enter the new Oceanbroad unit. This thing feels solid and stable. 36” width made getting in and out totally issue free. I kayak on Lake Michigan at the northern end of the Grand Traverse Bay… so we do get pretty rough water sometimes. I had this thing over a mile offshore in two foot waves and never had the least anxiety. I felt completely secure in the stability and performance of this thing. 10 mph, or so, winds didn’t seem to affect this kayak. It didn’t spin me around or make it difficult to keep on track. I was headed into the wind on the outbound track and it was NOT like climbing a sand dune where every step forward slides backwards two thirds of a step…though progress was obviously slower than on a windless day. Riding the waves in deep water was fun, but you might want to note that snacking into a larger wave does create some splash and going over the crest of a wave and snacking into the trough will create some spray to. That’s why you wear a swim suit kayaking. On the other hand, I was surprised how “not wet” I got. The inbound trip was with the wind and that was a treat. Being pushed by the wind and the waves, I didn’t need to paddle at all except to steer just a bit. I don’t know if it was because of the skeg, but the kayak kept solidly pointed downwind the entire time. All in all the handling was nimble and responsive. You won’t win in a race with a high end hard kayak but presumably that’s not why you’d be considering this one…and if you are, well, good luck with that! The drop stitch floor is completely rigid and the sides have a tough and durable feel to them (although less so than the canvas covered inflatable tubes of Coast Guard boats). It felt safe. That, and I had a life jacket on, so I knew if I lost air or got a puncture from the beak of an angry seagull, I'd be okay. There is a hard plastic nose cone on the bow and stern which look sturdy enough that it wouldn’t be concerning if you ran into something. One positive point is how quickly this inflates with the included dual action pump. I was going to buy an electric pump but now I don't feel the need. About five minutes is all it takes to get this ready for the water. Okay, maybe six. The paddle is aluminum and doesn't flex so it doesn’t feel cheap or like I'll need to replace it. The seat, however, is a different story. This was a point of discomfort that diminished my enjoyment. I couldn't lean back without the top half of the seat-back flopping over (it would help if the straps were mounted higher I think). The bottom of the seat is thin so you are almost sitting on the floor with no “leg drop”. Having to hold my body erect with my legs thusly extended, my lower abs began to ache, so I had to paddle bent forward at the waist, sitting “criss cross applesauce”. Not so fun. To mitigate this issue, I did have to buy a better seat. (Trymaker) which worked far better. Points off for that. Points off also for what they call a “footrest.” It is about as cheap as they could get away with and, at least for me, was essentially useless. At least as a footrest. I did take the strap out and use it for a tether for my waterproof phone case. It would be nice if the Oceanbroad folks paid more attention to these things because I'm not the only one complaining. I would want my customers to say, “Wow! Nice, comfortable, supportive seat and footrest!” I CAN say that about the replacement seat and my makeshift footrest that consists of an inflatable seat cushion stuffed most of the way into the bow, beneath the “skirt”. Kudos for the huge carry bag that comes with this! Have you ever had the experience of having a carry bag that after the very first unpacking, you can never squeeze everything back in again? Well no worries with this one! You can just dump the deflated kayak in without “stuffing”. And there is more than enough room for the pump, padfle, seat and skeg along with a life jacket, water shoes, gloves, mooring line sail and other accouterments and STILL have room left over for maybe a wet suit, mask, snorkel and flippers.. When I say “huge” I mean it! One other thing is that there is plenty of space behind the seat for a small cooler, lunch box tackle box, dry bag, jacket or some other small items. Roughly an 18” X 20” space, depending on where you situate the seat. I think I’ll try a smallish water resistant tub of some kind for a “trunk” as there is no dry compartment like some solid kayaks have. I told myself that if I didn't find it satisfying to use, I was going to quickly return it. Well, I'm not returning it so that should tell you something. Unless you really think you need a professional level yak, I'd highly recommend this one. But this isn't even supposed to compete at that level so just don't expect to win professional competitive events and you'll be fine. Since comfort is important in kayaking (because why would you want to buy a kayak and be uncomfortable in it?) I have to deduct a star in consideration of the flimsy seat and virtually worthless footrest. But fix those issues and you’ve got a nice, fun, 5-star inflatable! [Pro tip: During Amazon Days they significantly‘ reduce the price of this.] Update: I was out on Lake Michigan, having fun rollercoastering over the waves and did experience quite a bit of splash entering the kayak. What I didn't experience was the supper holes releasing the water. The water came above seat level so for he rest of that excursion I was sitting in water. Just a heads up. It probably would be helpful if Oceanbroad molded a drainage channel into the front deck skirting. Cheap easy fix. In my seating position, my very bend the skirt upwards, which I noticed did cause more water to run over the sides and into the lake. Maybe don't take this kayak out into bigger waves unless you don't mind sitting in water. Cheap fix. It did help when I folded back the skirting and clipped it to a front bungee "hold down" strap, creating sort of a run off channel.
