The mid pickup is reverse wound for hum-cancelling operation in positions 2 and 4, and the set features a calibrated wind for better volume balance across all 5 positions. They're also the most expensive I've tried so... I was searching for inexpensive Alnico 2 single coils. I decided to give these a shot based on reviews etc. They do not disappoint. They're the best single coils I've ever had, but to be fair I haven't tried those $300 sets. I have had plenty of cheaper sets though and these are definitely worth the money compared to those. The tone, especially the middle and neck pickups, just glorious. FWIW, I tend to use clean tones most of the time and occasionally light overdrive. No idea if Alnico 2 is what you want for fuzz/metal tones. Awesome for cleans though... Excellent pickups for the price imo.
