I use the lever (that lifts the flap) to open the spout and it pours normally. If you tip too much too quickly, it will “sputter and splash” out of the spout. There appears to be a very slight ridge around the spout’s opening. So if say filling a hot water bottle there could be a risk of getting scalded. Other than that it really is a beautiful and well made kettle. Follow the instructions and always empty after use and do not instantly refill with cold water when hot (if requiring more boiling water). Whistle is good and rather tuneful. Handle is robust. Lid is extremely tight and secure (to the point that it is actually easier to fill via the spout!). Heats up quickly (even on a basic electric hob). Not particularly big in volume (Realistically 2 mugs worth but feasible 3 teacups) however obviously heating less water = less energy. Recommended?
