This Freeview+ compatible Recorder can pause and rewind live programmes. The TV Series Recording function makes sure you don't forget to record your favourite programme series. And they can be archived on the 500-GB HDD in stunning high-definition quality. Record Two Programmes Simultaneously in HD; Twin HD tuner - since it has two tuners, the EX97 can record two different programmes at once. So there’s no need to worry about missing anything when two programmes overlap. Easy Settings For All your Favourite Series; TV series recording - by registering TV programs such as dramas with the Series Recording function, they can be automatically recorded and stored each time they are broadcast. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting to record each program and lets you watch the programs at any preferred time. High-Speed Start-Up Easy and quick operation; - improved processing speeds in the Panasonic DVD recorders mean that even slow operations like calling up the electronic programme guide (EPG) and Direct Navigator or opening the disc tray now happen almost instantly. Unlock your Stored Content; External HDD playback through USB - Panasonic DVD recorders and home theatre systems are able to directly access content stored on external hard disk drives, without the need for an intermediary PC. This content can be music, photo or video files. *External HDD Playback works with 2 TB or less drives that use the NT File System (NTFS) and FAT32 formats. Box Contains; Main unit, Instruction Book , Mains Cable , Remote Control, HDMI LEAD (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY).

Review: Good system - Brilliant dvd player. Before I got this, I was renting a panasonic player with twin recorder but it started to pack up, and when the rental company couldn't replace it with a new one (they offered me one that was 5-years old!) I decided to buy my own new one. This is basically the same as the one I was renting, but you can transfer programmes to disc with this one, which is a real bonus (I didn't think they made them anymore) so, very pleased.
Review: Panasonic as good as ever (if not better) - Easy to set up, even for a technophobe like me. Just plug in and play. The rest of the set-up (channel tuning) it does itself, automatically, in a matter of minutes. I bought it because my previous Panasonic home theatre system lasted for 13 years of daily use before the hard disk recorder failed (the rest, including the speakers, were still working fine). It's good to have ability to copy DVDs (even though I haven't used that particular function yet). The Freeview facility has given me the perfect excuse to get rid of my Sky + box and those expensive monthly payments. If anything, the HD picture quality on my Sony TV is better than I got from Sky. It's a no-brainer, really. Thoroughly recommended.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there an input socket e.g. scart, for connecting from another panasonic with hdd, to then copy to dvd?**
A: No Scart available on this unit. Infact you cannot connect it via AV as there are also no connections

**Q: is it possible to set the recorder timer to record straight onto a dvd disc**
A: Why would you want to record onto a dvd Disc???
When there is a 500 GB HDD Included on this unit.

**Q: Is it true that this machine will not record films to DVD from hard drive**
A: I deliberately recorded a film to HDD last night, and it has copied this to DVD with no problem. This is the only film I've done this with, and it would take more use to be sure it will do this on all films recorded to HDD.

**Q: Does this have any scart output to connect an external cable tv box?**
A: No. The only output from this player is HDMI cable and TV aerial.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Panasonic as good as ever (if not better)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some loss of functionality compared with its predecessor
*by J***G on 1 October 2018*

This is an excellent HD and DVD recorder, easy to set up (if you are reasonably confident with gadgets) and with some useful features. But I still have my DMR-EX77 which had a SCART socket and could therefore record from a Sky box and liberate some of the space on your Sky hard disk. That functionality has been lost. There seems to be no way of recording from a Sky box or from a VCR. The DMR-EX77 was also able to record direct to DVD but this one always records to hard disk and lets you copy your recordings to a DVD later. I don't totally trust recordings that are kept only on a hard disk, because my DMR-EX77 was damaged by what I think was a power spike and I had to buy a replacement internal power supply (a small circuit board) on ebay. Since then, I have always used a surge protection device with my TV and connected devices. This model can record two programmes at the same time (which is similar functionality to my Sky Plus HD box though without as many channels) and the picture quality is better than on the earlier DVD recorders. Apparently it can also copy video files from a USB stick onto its hard disk but I haven't tried that and would probably not have any use for that. The remote is able to operate non-Panasonic televisions which is also an improvement over earlier models.
