The grip is very strong and needs a little strength to open it. But if then feels secure. I would imagine people who broke their car vents either put excessive pressure on the vent slat while attaching it or trying to get the phone in the holder. Would I recommend this. Yes absolutely. Although if you do not have much hand strength then you might find this awkward to use.
