The Estwing transfers less force/vibration to the hand, seems to require less work/force to split the >8" rounds, and when there are misses and wedge strikes, while the rubber around the sledge head gets torn up, the fiberglass handle underneathe just sheds the hits, so we expect to have this hammer for many, many years, whereas a hickory handle would have likely already been destroyed. Finally, the cost of one of these Estwing hammers off desertcart is about $10.00 cheaper, minimum, compared to our local retailer's offerings. And free shipping. That's incredible.
