## Description

Lakanto Monk Fruit Sweetener is zero calorie, zero glycemic sweetener that is just like raw cane sugar. Over a thousand years ago - In the remote mountain highlands of Asia, a group of Buddhist monks called the Louhan achieved enlightenment and ascension through meditation and pure living. The monks discovered a rare superfood prized for its sweetness and its ability to raise chi, or life energy. This sacred fruit was named monk fruit and was used for centuries to increase chi and well-being, earning it the nickname "The Immortals' Fruit." We still harvest monk fruit for Lakanto in the same pristine area according to traditional and environmental methods. #DiscoverYourChi Lakanto's mission is to bring chi to life by inspiring people to reach their highest potential in health and wellness and by creating products that are innovative, delicious, natural, nutritious, and sugar-free or no sugar added. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: What are all the ingredients listed for this product?**
A: Lakanto isn't truely a "Monkfruit Sweetner", except as a marketing gimmick. It is basically the same thing as Truvia, except that it is substituting in a bit of monk fruit instead of stevia to increase the sweetness so that it is more like using sugar in proportion. This is made even more obvious by their marketing it as a 1:1 substitute for sugar, while distracting people with the (erroneous) note that actual monk fruit is 300x the sweetness of sugar.

It would be more honest to market their product as an "Erythritol sweetner" with monk fruit extract, but that's not as marketable.

**Q: What is the percentage by volume of erythritol and what percentage is Luo Han Guo?**
A: This is almost pure erythritol, about 99%. Erythritol is about 70% as sweet as sugar. They add enough Monk Fruit to make it as sweet as sugar. Being 99% erythritol by weight would not be deceptive because Monk Fruit is 150 to 200 times as sweet as sugar. What is deceptive is that only 30% of the sweetness comes from Monk Fruit. Thus it should be call Erythritol enhanced with Monk Fruit, rather than Monk Fruit sweetener.

Having stated this, other than potential digestive problems resulting from erythritol not being digestible, there is nothing wrong with a sweetener being 70% erythritol and 30% Monk Fruit by sweetness, except calling it Monk Fruit sweetener.

If you want a granulated Monk Fruit sweetener with a higher percentage of Monk Fruit, you will have to look for one that is not a one for one replacement for sugar, or uses a less sweet base than erytritol.

**Q: Does this product contain any carbs? Thank you...**
A: About 90% of erythritol passes into the blood stream, where it circulates, but not metabolized by the body, and is eventually excreted in urine. The remaining 10% is broken down by microbes within the digestive system, which is how it can cause intestinal gas.

The other answer here incorrectly states "it is excreted before it can enter the blood stream." Anatomically, the only way it can reach the urine is to pass into the bloodstream.

**Q: What does it mean by 2:1?**
A: 2:1 reflects the ratio of sugar to our product. For example, in a recipe that calls for 2 Tablespoons of sugar, you would only use 1 Tablespoon of Lakanto.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good substitute sugar
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 16, 2026*

I love the sugar-free monk fruit sweetener. It is very keto friendly. You can make desserts with it and it taste like you used real sugar. It feels and looks and pours like real white sugar. There is no bitter aftertaste. What I like about it is you can eat or drink something that’s made with the sugar, but it breaks down into your system so slow it does not raise your sugar levels. I highly recommend it. I’ve got a bag that I just opened tonight and started using.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best low glycemic sugar alternative
*by on Reviewed in the United States April 24, 2026*

I’ve tried just about every low-glycemic sweetener out there, and this is the only one I keep coming back to—I’ve purchased it over seven times now. That alone should say a lot. What really sets this monk fruit sweetener apart is the taste. Most alternatives I’ve tried have that lingering aftertaste or a strange cooling effect, but this one is clean, smooth, and actually enjoyable. It blends well in coffee, tea, and even baking without overpowering or tasting artificial. As someone who’s mindful of blood sugar, finding a sweetener that doesn’t spike glucose and still tastes good felt almost impossible—until this. It’s become a staple in my kitchen, and I genuinely don’t feel like I’m “settling” for a substitute. If you’ve struggled to find a low-glycemic sweetener that doesn’t taste off, this is absolutely worth trying. Clearly, I’m not the only one hooked—but after seven purchases, I can confidently say it’s here to stay for me.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This favorite natural sweetener has become an essential product in my home.
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 1, 2016*

I live in a very small town in northern Nevada where we only have 2 grocery stores so I love being able to get my favorite products from Amazon online and this is one that I'll be purchasing regularly. I hate using granulated sugar for anything and have come pretty close to completely eliminating it's use in my home. I was very excited when I was able to start buying some products made with Stevia sweetener and when I was able to just buy Stevia to use in drinks and for cooking, but I hate the aftertaste and always have to mix some kind of sweetener with the Stevia. When I tasted the Monk fruit sweetener for the first time, I was so very pleased because there was no aftertaste. In fact, I used the Monk fruit as the second sweetener with Stevia to decrease the aftertaste of the Stevia and it worked very well. This second package of Lakanto Monk Fruit Sweetener All Natural Sugar is even better than the first package. They have two different versions: Golden (the one that I bought) that is referred to as a brown sugar substitute and Classic White which is referred to as a white sugar substitute. Since I've used more brown sugar than white in recent years, I decided to get the Golden version and I will continue to order that since the taste is so delicious and light. It is great to have an all natural sweetener that can be used for anything I need to sweeten without adding any other type of sweetener.Because I've spent the last 5 years trying to sharply decrease the use of sugar, I have learned to use only about half of the suggested amount of sweetener in recipes, but I'm finding that items I'm making now with the Monk fruit sweetener are much better tasting than what I've been making. I also have NOT experienced any kind of GI upset since using the Monk fruit sweetener. I do know that some diabetic candies made with certain sweeteners (sugar alcohol?) can really upset your GI system, but I have had no problems with the Monk fruit. If I still had kids around that I was cooking and baking for, I'd be just as happy to use the Monk fruit, in fact, I'd be happier using this product rather than anything else. If you can cut out as much sugar as possible from anyone's diet, regardless of age, it will help improve their health and help them really enjoy the natural sweetness of fruit (when I was growing up, my mother had to sprinkle all food with either salt or sugar and it took awhile for me to break that habit when I left home). If you haven't tried this product, I would urge everyone to try it - especially if you are using any sugar substitutes that are not all natural or if you have diabetes and must eliminate sugar. Yes, it is more expensive than buying regular sugar, but what is the cost to your health from eating that? I consider the cost of the Monk fruit sweetener to be acceptable because it is a great substitute and so beneficial to my health.
