They are made of a thicker gauge than the food cans and the standard can openers struggle. I was also fed up of replacing the small can openers so often I thought I would by one expensive sturdy can opener that will outlast me. (I'm 70) I did find that the screw clamp didn't secure the base to my old wooden kitchen table, no matter what I did with it. No biggie as I've now screwed it to the table but my kitchen table is a knocked about old thing so it doesn't matter. This being a rental home I'd be concerned about screwing the base to the kitchen work top. I've splashed out for the replacement wheel and blade to future proof it. I Find using this can opener a bit fiddly to get the blade to pierce the can just right but when in place the cans are opened very easily. I think the fiddly experience is more down to me not using it on a daily basis. People in a busier kitchen or cafe / commercial kitchen will soon master it and be happy with it. A good, sturdy, well built product.
