I've tried the electric trimmers etc, but honestly the best option and least stressful for most of my dogs is a good quality GLASS (or very sharp) nail file. The trick is to do it a little bit a few days a week/month. If you do it regularly. The wick will shrink back and make it easier to manage too. Don't hold the toes when filing, hold the nail itself.
