You can scrape it off and use your own like Arctic Silver or Noctua or something if you want but with an overclocked i7, my processor generally idles at 20 celsius or less with the default pad and at load it is rarely above 40. I had planned to use arctic silver but I left the included compound on to see how good it was and it is fine. **Q: would this work with an i core 7?** A: Yes it will work perfectly. No problem. Go for it. **Q: What do you guys recommend for a pump and reservoir for this system?** A: I think you misunderstand sir, this is a self contained system. You can not add an external res or pump nor do you need too. It is a self contained system, much like the corsair h55 and such, its a closed loop system which means less maintenance and slightly lesser cooling.
