## Overview

LiquaGen KDF 55 is a premium copper-zinc filter media designed to remove up to 99% of heavy metals and chlorine from water. Its patented redox process not only extends the life of carbon filters by up to 15 times but also inhibits harmful microorganisms, making it an eco-friendly, cost-effective upgrade for whole house and drinking water systems.

## Description

KDF 55 is a high-purity copper-zinc granule media1 lb.Price is per pound; 5 lbs. is usually needed for a 1 cu. ft. systemHeavy Metal RemovalRemoves up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals.KDF Process Media are high-purity copper-zinc granules that use redox (the exchange of electrons) to remove chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, watersoluble heavy metals and microorganisms from water. Effective? This highly-effective, patented alloy removes more than 95% of the free chlorine before it reaches your carbon bed so your carbon can concentrate on removing organics, thus extending its useful service life by up to 15 times. You'll discover yourself using less carbon and treating yourself to fewer carbon change-outs, smaller carbon beds and then smaller filters. With long-lasting, recyclable KDF Process Media , RO membranes and ion exchange resins will last longer.

Review: This stuff works great. I use a pound of it in a filter that contains bone char carbon. This media protects the bone char carbon from getting consumed by chlorine in my municipal water. I have a standard carbon block filters after that filter.
Review: Good product, as advertised!

## Features

- KDF Process Media enhance the performance, extend the life, reduce the maintenance and lower the total cost of many available carbon-based systems.
- KDF Process Media help control microorganisms by creating an environment that’s deadly to some microorganisms and that interferes with the ability of many other microorganisms to function. Either way, the use of KDF Process Media results in the total elimination of some contaminants and a great reduction of a wide variety of others.
- Significantly extend the life of granular activated carbon | Recyclable Product | Effectively remove chlorine and heavy metals and control microorganisms
- Outperform silver-impregnated carbons

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this media require a certain amount of psi for water to flow through it, or can it be used in a pour over/gravity filter also?**
A: Hello, great question, thanks for inquiring with us! The granular KDF Filter Media is 171lbs per cubic foot, so it is a heavy/dense water filter media and depending on the application + nature of the filter system itself, it may be necessary to factor in the density of the media and how much pressure may be lost . Granular KDF Filter Media is utilized in some gravity flow applications but the density of the material and how much can be used.......would depend on the design of the gravity filter (think things like head pressure from upper reservoir, diameter of gravity flow cartridge, other media utilized, axial vs. radial flow, and more....). If avoidance of pressure loss is of paramount concern (pressurized or pressurized gravity flow type water filter designs included), the Reticulated Foam KDF Filter Media version of KDF Filter Media (instead of the traditional granular KDF Media listed here) does not cause pressure loss regardless of how it is implemented in the filter system design and is likely a great fit for your needs given the nature of your initial question here. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

**Q: Can i mix kdf55, kdf85, activated charcoal and alumina without affecting effectiveness?**
A: KDF-55, KDF-85 & Activated Carbon can be utilized inside the same filter cartridge housing. However, it is ideal for the water to flow through the KDF Filter media and then through the activated carbon filter media. So if possible load the KDF and activated carbon filter media in layers (not homogeneously mixed) ensuring the water flow through the KDF first. I would not recommend that you mix Activated Alumina into the same cartridge. Installing a second cartridge full of Activated Alumina only upstream of your KDF/GAC mixed cartridge (so that water flows through the Activated Alumina only cartridge first) is the best way to go. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

**Q: what is the cubic foot to pound ratio? IE: i need approximatly .75 cubic feet so how many pounds shall ineed to purchase?**
A: Hello Higgins great question, thanks for inquiring with us! Granular KDF-55 Filtration Media is extraordinarily dense, 171 pounds per cubic foot. So 0.75 cubic foot of granular KDF-55 would be 128.25 pounds of media. Please do give us a call if you'd like to discuss any additional questions you have in greater detail! (contact info below)

**Q: The (empty) cartridge into which i pour the kdf media has a round, 3” thick sponge at the bottom. should i replace that with every media change?**
A: Hello, great question, thanks for inquiring with us! If using one of our CuZn Empty Refillable Water Filter Cartridges, we've got replacement media topper pads as well as replacement felt pats that are donut shaped and inserted into the top and bottom cap that we're happy to sell. We're planning to upload a webpage for ordering those pads in the near future but in the meantime orders for them replacement pads for refillable cartridges can be purchased over the phone by calling 800.345.7873. You are correct that the replacement of the pads inside the cartridge is optional in some cases. If the pad that is currently in the cartridge appears to be relatively clean (not clogged) and you've been using KDF Media that prevents bacteria grow inside the cartridge, it should be safe to reuse that pad until it is clogged or structural deteriorated. There are 3 pads in nearly all refillable cartridge housings, (2) donut shaped pads in the top and bottom cap + one disc shaped pad that is an inch or so thick and typically constructed of non woven material or foam. The one that is disc shaped and thicker is typically used as a Media Topper Pad. Where the cartridge is filled all the water until there is 1/4" - 1/2" of space left, the media topper pad is then placed on top and gets compressed / squished down flat when screwing on the cap to keep the media inside a nice type column. Always happy to help answer any and all questions about building filters in greater detail, just give us call! (contact info below)

Built a prototype water filter for the homestead, and it seems to be working great. I added the kdf55 media to improve filtration, and it's proven to be a good addition. 1 lb of kdf55 into 2lbs activated carbon, then 1 lb of fine sand. All contained in 14" of 2" pvc, super simple. Water comes out sparkling clear and tastes great.
