Time and lots of practice is what is needed to begin to become comfortable with and proficient in any hand. By diluting the amount of time spent on each it would extend by quite a bit the length of time needed to begin to go to the next level. Aside from that minor quibble, I think this book would help anyone to get into the intermediate level with some solid skills. There was lots of useful ideas in ways to study my pursuit of Italics. I'm still at the advanced beginner stage, but time, practice and useful books like this will get me further along. This book expands on the basics of Italic and Copperplate and includes an introduction into flourishing and Illumination. I particularly like the way , in all of her books, she shows examples of poorly spaced or incorrectly penned letters. She explains why they are not correct and how to correct them. . This, in my opinion, is what is missing in most other instruction books on calligraphy. Other books I have and recommend by Eleanor Winters are " Calligraphy in Ten Easy Lessons" which is basic instruction on the Italic hand.
