A 1000 litre bulk bag = 220 gallons (22 x 10 gallon containers) **Q: Is this soil organic?** A: The vegetable planting topsoil is a blend of topsoil, compost and composted bark fines.It is very difficult to get certificated organic topsoil. However, we do have a topsoil that came from a project we did with Norfolk Wildlife Trust last year. The soil comes from a forest floor where NWT removed 30 year old pines. That area had never had anything growing on it other than the pine trees, before that it was just heath land. They removed the trees in order to return it to a heath. This soil is absolutely organic as it had never had any pesticides etc on it. We could use this in the blend instead of our standard topsoil?Chris **Q: Is this product good by itself for growing vegetables in planters? or does it need another soil to supplement it?** A: I bought it to grow strawberry in. I just added the normal additive to the soil to assist the fruit crop. Other wise it is great did have lots of weeds though, again this you should expect, once weeded a couple of times all was good. He quickly followed up our order with a call to check on the delivery and talk us through the options, even advised us on how much soil conditioner we needed vs. topsoil for our conditions. He certainly knows his subject. Orders are sent out/confirmed on wednesdays (the day we ordered) so we even got delivery on the Friday. The soil arrives via a very large lorry, on palettes, a ton of soil in each bag. The soil conditioner they sell, is very fine with a very low peat content. This will help break up heavy clay soils. The topsoil has a higher peat content, more particulates. We used a layer of 2-3 inches of each. Buying this way is definitely more economical than small bags from the garden centre. I read several reviews of providers before ordering, as quality was my main concern. I can definitely confirm the quality of the soil from Mister Compost, we've been very happy. He suggested enlisting a neighbour to help, so between the three of us we were able to get the pallet trolley up our (very) steep drive. Can't praise him enough.
