Build up an army and retake the continents whilst powering up your army and enjoying the (albeit kind basic and tropey story). Gameplay is king here, and I really enjoyed the gameplay loop. I do think it overstays it's welcome a bit by the end though. The game took me near about 100 hours to beat, which seems like a really odd choice as the game is leaning very heavily on the ability to replay, try different paths, different unit formations and such. So honestly I think the game is TOO long for what it is. But that's a pretty unique complaint to have in an otherwise really good experience, and that doesn't detract from the game being fun. This seems like one of those games that will end up being extremely expensive in 10 years to find a physical copy of if you're a collector. It might be a sleeper hit but don't sleep on this one though! It's very good, and if you can find it on sale for less than full price, even better. The crazy amount of interesting tactical team combination that can be tinkered with is truly the meat & potatoes of the game. You can micromanage as much or as little as you want with your squads and their gear but at some point you'll feel like you can't see the forest for the trees so it's at that point I stepped back & just kinda went with what my gut told me & made adjustments accordingly. Put it this way, this is the game that broke my non stop Final Fantasy VII Rebirth streak! Haven't gone back since I started Unicorn Overlord! Not the same kind of game but SUPER ENGAGING nonetheless! For as little as I heard/read about the game it made me curious enough to try it & i was not only happily surprised, I'm already on my 2nd playthrough...
