I feel like for one thing it's geared for a family with younger kids, like maybe 10 and under. My kids range from 2-15, so a lot of it is not gonna engage my older kids. Most importantly, it's like a self help book for families 😝 there was a time in my life where I devoured self help style books, thankfully the Lord has delivered me from that mindset. I do not want to go back there or encourage my kids into that mindset. I haven't read Tony Evans before, so idk if this is his norm, but I've heard good stuff about him, so this was really disappointing. It's not so much that it's flawed in doctrine, it's just really his approach. At this stage in my walk with the Lord, I've learned self help is garbage bc its behavior modification, like fruit ninja. Jesus wants to transform us from the inside out, so we just need to yield to the Holy Spirit as he removes the roots that are causing the "bad fruit" (root ninja ☺)It boils down to this- I can try to change my behavior (cleaning the outside of the cup as Jesus put it) but I have no ability to actually transform myself, I just surrender to the Lord as He does it (cleaning the inside of the cup). I do not recommend this book unless all you care about is playing church. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Great For Young Families (Not so good for older kids) *by J***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2019* If you're a family considering this devotional and you have kids under 12, this is a GREAT devotional for you. Unfortunately, I bought this book for my family (a teenager & tween in the home) thinking I was going to get the hard-hitting depth that came from Kingdom Men, but instead was greeted with something between Children's Sunday school a and an Olsteen sermon. That is to say, if you have older kids, you'll find yourself half-heartedly reading it and having to use the topics to drive conversations. In that regard, it's served its purpose, but I was hoping for more intentionality behind this devotional. For younger families, this is PERFECT, it has a fun Friday activity each week that range from arts and crafts to charades. These activities could be really fun, but those same activities are disdained by teenagers. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love how this book makes us spend time together. *by B***M on Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2018* My family and I have started reading this devotional book every morning. I have a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old that are having to get used to getting up a little earlier every morning so we can fit in the time. Some of the lessons are a little silly but I think we realize that we all need to have this time together. Having a time that we all sit together talking about God is the best thing that we could have ever started.
