## Description

System Three Resins Rotfix Wood Restoration Rot Repair, 24-Ounce - Automotive Adhesives And Sealants - desertcart.com

Review: I liked the fact this was so easily molded to fit ... - I used two different epoxy products restoring the wood rot in an outside deck. I liked the fact this was so easily molded to fit vertical defects and dried true and accurate. It was very easy to clean up and not at all messy. It sanded well and looks great painted. I used the pretreatment too but didn't like it as well as a product I found later and will mention in a moment. The pretreatment has to be mixed and is hard to apply from the squeeze bottle. I ended up mixing it a small cups with syringes and applying it with disposable brushes for some deep, verticle surfaces. I also used a wood filler and separate hardener produce from Bondo. This worked very well on horizontal surfaces because it was soupier. The Bondo much messier and much harder to clean up. It sanded well and filled the defects nicely. The Bondo pretreatment came in a can with a brush in the lid, no premixing. This was very easy to apply. The one drawback was the screw top lid glued itself shut and I ended up opening the can and pouring it into an old glass jar to keep using it. I used a disposable brush several times before I had to throw it away.
Review: Perfect solution to rotted deck core - Our '73 Chris Craft cruiser had the bow anchor secured to the fore-deck by several brass fixtures, each with 3 holes, and each hole drilled thru the top fiberglas skin, the wood core, and the under fiberglas skin. None of the holes were properly "bedded" for leaks and all leaked water into the cabin whenever it rained. Over the years the deck sagged, and became so weak, we couldn't walk on it. We dried out the whole deck area for several weeks, then taped up the undersides of each hole, blew compressed air into the holes from the top until no vapor escaped from any of the holes, and proceeded to fill holes beginning from the back, progressing to the front. The 1st 24oz. kit filled half of the holes, so we ordered another batch, letting the first cure for a week. The 2nd batch exactly filled the remaining holes. What a fabulous product. Viscosity is nearly as thin as water, so it flowed into all the crevasses easily. The filler bottle is able to be squeezed, so the epoxy can easily be forced into the inner core areas. In the final analysis, our deck has been made ridged, and the sag which had increased for years, was magically restored to a level deck. Excellent product, and very easy to mix and use. So glad we didn't cut open the top skin, replace the wood core, and re-glass a new top skin. Would recommend this to anyone for fixing a rotted deck core.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used on painted wood?**
A: Well, sort of. To be used correctly, you need to scrape away rotten or damaged wood which naturally exposes bare wood. I used it to restore several rotted exterior window sills that were painted. After the repair and repainting, two years later, they still look great. Good stuff!

**Q: Do I need to pre-treat my rotted wood "pockets" (after removing debris) before filling with Rotfix?**
A: No need to pre-treat. Make sure you've cleaned out as much rotted wood and resulting debris as you can. Then mix the A and B solutions according to the instructions and apply. It really is amazing how the RotFix hardens and strengthens the area. Good stuff! And so is the SculpWood you can follow up with to patch or rebuild the area. Another great product.

**Q: What is the drying time for this resin?**
A: I used it last summer so I cannot recall exactly how long each step took to dry. But certainly, it was within a day or two and I was sanding and shaping the repair. Great stuff, though. Saved me a lot of $$$ over replacing rotten wood. Once painted, you can see no evidence of the repair.

**Q: does this product contain borate to actually kill dry rot fungus?**
A: Dry rot occurs when the wood gets wet, then rots, then dries out. Once dry, the rot does not spread until it gets wet again. Do keep in mind that the porous nature of dry rot readily soaks up moisture and starts back up the rotting process. So it is real important to address the ability for water to get to the wood. That is the only true way to stop the rot. Now, it is true that dry rot is more vulnerable to insect damage - carpenter ants, carpenter bees, and termites. And borate or copper wood treatments will certainly help dissuade them. However, once a wood hardener such as this product is added, that also dissuades them. So I'm not sure how much more the preservative really helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easily used & great results

I have used both System Three wood repair products with great success. Both require mixing of two separate materials which is done very easily: the liquid "Rot Fix" wood consolidator/hardener comes with a mixing bottle with extremely clear directions how to use (so the ratio is consistently one to two parts). Likewise, the SculpWood comes in two different colors so after the first time mixing equal parts and seeing the resulting color, it is easy to mix more and know when the ratio is correct. As for performance: I could find no fault in either: the consolidator works wonders on clean but soft and unstable wood. Filling any holes and gaps with the SculpWood is actually fun: the material stays pliable for more than the stated 15 minute limit and it is even more flexible (but adheres well) than artist's sculpting clay. The 40 year old cedar fence I repaired using these products is not only solid where it once was unstable ( I used these products on a rickety fencepost), it also looks like it is all wood even on a few planks that are now 30% epoxy. A truly remarkable system and will save $$ on repairing what was once thought needed to be replaced, especially those items --like my cedar fencing-- where the same materials (eg. their dimensions and quality) are no longer available.
