From the manufacturer A Brand-New Puzzling Escape Adventure Series Crunching the Numbers There are a number of different cards you may encounter both in the starting room and throughout the game. Be careful though some cards combinations will lead you into traps, and a wrong guess can result in a nasty time penalty. You may encounter other cards, including new locations, complicated machines, and object modifiers, all of which will lead you to explore even further. App available on iOS and Android devices. Unlock! by Space Cowboys Unlock! is a series of cooperative card-based escape adventures for up to six players. Each Unlock! game consists of sixty cards depicting objects, maps, and puzzles that can be activated, solved, or combined in an effort to access other cards and areas. The free companion app tracks the time allotted to win the game, while also offering hints and unlocking new, and necessary, elements. When the players believe they have figured out the code to escape each adventure, they will input the number into the app and escape the danger, or lose even more time in finding the real sequence. Each box includes a ten-card tutorial deck so even those less experienced in the art of escape can dive right into the game experience.The tutorial briefly introduces each of the game's different card types and interactions so every player knows just how to take advantage of the cards in the game. Please note that the tutorial deck is included within the first scenario deck. Scenarios The Formula The Formula takes you into the tunnels of New York's subway system in search of an elusive chemist and the serum he's been developing. Doctor Hoffman's laboratory is full of traps and puzzles you'll have to get past in order to obtain the serum and escape. Squeek & Sausage Squeek & Sausage is a cartoon adventure, in which you must try to stop the evil Professor Noside from activating his doomsday device. The Professor is very clever, though, and you must be able to evade his traps in order to save the world. The Island of Doctor Goorse The Island of Doctor Goorse is a complex and multifaceted mystery adventure set on a billionaire antique collector's island. The crash-landing that got you there will separate players into two teams, adding yet another obstacle to achieving your brilliant escape. The Tools to your Escape Each Unlock! game begins with a starting card (or two), featuring an introduction to the adventure on one side and your initial location map on the other side. Across this first card will be a series of numbers, indicating which other cards you can access as soon as the clock begins counting down. In order to progress through the deck, you must examine the cards and figure out how they interact with each other and with the app. Green machines and yellow codes are two card types you'll encounter that require some problem solving. Machines feature an array of numbers associated with a visual, and determining which numbers are relevant will allow you to assign a value to the card and use it later on. To bypass yellow cards, you will need to enter a four-digit code into the game app. Solving both codes and machines will require you to locate hidden information or recall clues provided on other cards. It is possible, then, that you will be faced with a code or machine that you cannot solve until the associated cards have been revealed. Risk and Reward In the deck, you will also come across object cards, both blue and red. In order to move on from these cards, you will have to combine them, adding together the card values in order to access another card in the deck. For example, combining a red card numbered 35 and a blue card numbered 11 will give you access to card 46—if it exists. Sometimes, you will also be able to combine these cards with solved machines and discovered modifiers. Many combinations will be possible throughout each game, but with tricks and traps all over the place, you may not always want to know what's on the other side of the card you've accessed. Combining and solving cards is the only way to progress in the game, but it may not always work out in your favour. Incorrect code guesses and unfortunate card pairings will cause you to take penalties in the app, which will shave off remaining time and lower your final score. However, a bold choice may also be the one thing that gets you out of each sticky situation, so you'll need to keep a close eye on every hidden clue before making any risky moves.

Such is Unlock! Unlock! has great art, looking at it, it's like the characters and the settings are jumping right out at you. Because the art of each card is a masterpiece, we opted to buy card sleeves for them. Unlock! Escape Adventures (combo 3 games) This particular unlock combo box contains a game where the group would be split! such a wonderful game to test teamwork. I was hesitant that I will like the cartoonish game but it became my favorite - it made me imagine outrageous things to progress into the game! The scientific game was also a brain teaser, it was wonderful! Unlock! 2 Mystery Adventures (combo 3 games) What can we say! These games changed the mechanics without having to change the mechanics itself! A paradox, I know, but all 3 games were so good they blew our minds. Unlock! 3 Secret Adventures (combo 3 games) Again the cartoonish game was, at first thought, would be for kids, as well as the Wizard of Oz themed-game, but heck, they became my favorites - so witty and creative! This also goes for the cowboy game, genius! Unlock! 4 Exotic Adventures (combo 3 games) Great for upto 4 people to really maximize what these games had to offer - each player can be in other places to gather clues *wink* *wink*. One production issue though, the Aladdin-themed cards had some slightly bad printing - just a few mm off. All the Sheherazade's Last Tale cards were not cut properly. This almost made the game unsolvable because certain card corners have chevrons that must align to solve a certain puzzle. Being not properly cut, the chevrons of the puzzle did not align. Overall, with Unlock! you'll feel like you're watching and immersing into different movies/places without having to leave your home.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this game have replay value? Once you've 'escaped' can you play the game again?**
A: There's two possible ways of reading this question. If you mean "Do you have to destroy any content to play this game?" - some escape room games do indeed hinge on destruction of content - that's not the case with this one, each scenario is replayable in *that* regard. However, a given player will most likely recall solutions to the puzzles presented, so that player wouldn't benefit hugely from replaying.

Speaking personally, I've had some enjoyment from introducing scenarios to others after I've played it myself, giving them gentle hints towards the solutions, and I could imagine myself perhaps revisiting the game many years from now and enjoying it once more at that point after I'd forgotten much of the content.

Space Cowboys do offer a few print-and-play 'demos'; small adventures using a small deck of cards - and it may be worthwhile to download and print one of those to get an impression of how it works and why the short-term replayability isn't there for an individual player.

**Q: Does this play solo?**
A: This question was asked on the Board Game Geek website and I've quoted the answer: "It is (although the Island is a little weird to play solo, not that suited.) The others are fine"

**Q: Does each of the three games take an hour or do all three together take an hour?**
A: All 3 games take roughly an hour or more depending in your skill level at this type of game. So 3 hours plus the whole lot

**Q: Can the game/timer be paused?**
A: Yes. Pausing the trickiest puzzles is the only way my kids can get through.

Thos game was bought after some inspiring advertising was seen on instagram, before this I hadn't heard of this series. Only played them with my partner and must admit it has given game night some thrill and excitement over the last couple of weeks! The games are so exciting and being challenged against the clock only makes it more exhilarating. Some cons/issues/improvements we would have noticed in the games though, is however the fact that they aren't really relatable. Once you know the solution, it would no longer be fun. We are now left in the predicament that we want to play the final game in the box but dont want to use it too quickly and gave to buy another box so quickly. Second, although it isnt that replayanle, it's a shame you cant save your times etc on the app, so that you could do a time trial or maybe have a household challenge, who can solve it the quickest. Other than sharing to facebook etc, there isnt an easy means to save your stats. All in all, a great set of games for a fantastic evening of fun that all can get involved with, but shame you cant replay them. Maybe sell more single games at a cheaper price and might be more open to the idea of buying more.
