    Excellent Resource!

This book is an excellent resource for anyone preparing for, or going through, the diet. The author includes personal experience, resources, recipes, product suggestions, & diet tips. A must read for parents of "Keto Kids." It has been an invaluable resource for us and was very reassuring when we were preparing for the diet for our little one, and is still a great resource for us to get ideas and even a form of support from. So grateful she wrote about her family's experience!

Great resource for parents starting ketogentic diet

This book is fantastic for parents with children on the ketogentic diet. I love the combination of fact, recipes and personal experience. I just marked 15 new recipes I want to try last night. So glad to have options other than those from the hospital. The author shares her own journals through their families journey. I have found these incredibly helpful as I go through many of the same thoughts, fears and experiences. Great to know someone has been there before me.

    Very Disappointing!

*by A***Y on Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2019*

I purchased this book in hopes of finding new kid-friendly recipes in order to share this lifestyle with my son. We decided to try a gluten-free diet to help him with behavior issues and keto is naturally gluten free. I have been living the keto lifestyle for over a year and it has helped with many of my personal inflammatory health issues. I agree with other reviewers that this book is poorly written and disorganized, but my main concern is the inaccuracies and dangerous advise from a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.1) The insinuation that the ketogenic diet is medically unsafe for "normal" people, while presenting a diet including chips, candy, and fast food as typical and implied "normal/healthy" is completely backwards. Many chronic health conditions can be linked to inflammation caused by excessive amounts of sugar in the Western Diet. Providing a diet with fruits and vegetables as the main sources of carbohydrates is a healthy alternative to fast food, junk food, processed carbohydrates, and sugary snacks.2) Many of the foods listed in this book as safe on a ketogenic diet actually contain too many carbohydrates: carrots, apples, corn, Goldfish crackers, potato chips, Doritos, Mini-Vanilla Wafers, etc. Some of these processed carbohydrates contain food dyes, preservatives, and chemical additives that cause more harm to our bodies than fat.3) The most important issue I have with this book is the recommendation to put the child's medications in his food. As a Doctor of Pharmacy, I am appalled that a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is advising parents to just put their kids seizure medications or any medications in their food. While some medications can be given in food, many medications are not meant to be crushed. If medications are given in food, these preparations should not be made ahead of time. The medications that can be crushed and put into food are to be given right away. Most medications are meant to be kept at a certain temperature for the greatest efficacy and to keep the medication from degrading. On page 151, in a letter to the grandparents, the author states that her child's medication was already frozen in Blueberry Ice Cream and to possibly thaw it out in the microwave. Those medications are not meant to be frozen or microwaved!I am appalled by the advise this book gives and hope that parents consult other sources for implementing a Keto diet for their child. Please seek the advise of other healthcare providers, dietitians, etc before taking the information in this book as "gospel."
