The steel is Japanese, so they moved manufacturing to Japan. It's that simple. If you know anything about steel and knives, you also know that it's some of the best steel you can have in a knife. It's Lam.VG10 steel, which was first designed in Japan. It's more resistant against corrosion and has better edge sharpness and retention. The steel they used before was German ATS34 steel, an older variety.
