Are one of the drums a true grater?** A: Hello,"Grate" question! =) The finer drum can be used on harder foods such as chocolate and hard cheeses and will produce grater-like results (food will be fine and almost powder-like). However, the teeth on these drums are one-directional and are generally more for "shredding". They do not have the traditional grater teeth you would see on an upright grater which will grate in any direction and turn hard foods pretty much completely into powder. My older product was left for my in-laws, so I bought another. I usually keep it in the fridge ready to grate my cheese, washing it in-between blocks of cheese.
