Make sure they are completely clean. Then use the deodorant. Swipe it probably 30 to 50 times up and down your underarms. You need to do that. It's not like regular deodorant. Or, if your underarms are already dry you can run the stick under hot water and then apply it to your underarms. The first response to wet the Basin and touch it to the Basin is ridiculous. That will not work. I've been using this for years. It is amazing and I will never use any other type of deodorant or antiperspirant. If you only shower every other day it will last 2 or even three days but you have to apply it to clean underarms and you have to apply enough of it to create a good barrier. You still sweat with this so you're still releasing toxins as sweating is healthy for your for different reasons, but you won't smell at all! And it's safe! Be careful not to drop it. If it cracks it can create a sharp surface that can cut your skin. You may be able to sand it down. Also be careful not to tip the thing upside down or be careful doing so because I have had the rock fall out of the deodorant applicator and crack. I recommend this natural mineral Rock deodorant stick to everyone even though they don't all try it. **Q: I am a little confused. The bottle says "No aluminum chlorohydrate" but the ingredients says: (Ammonium Alum). Does it have aluminum or not?** A: Depending on whether it's the men's or women's formula, It contains Potassium Alum, KAl(SO4)2 or Ammonium Alum, (NH4)Al(SO4)2. Notice the "Al" in each formula? That's aluminum. Neither formula is aluminum-free, even if it does not contain aluminum chlorohydrate. **Q: does it have alum** A: I found this when looking for definition: “A note on crystal deodorants: many of these contain natural mineral salts such as potassium alum or ammonium alum. This worked so well. It was easy to use ( better with damp skin, but if you miss that window, just wet the top of the crystal), it caused no irritation at all and most importantly it worked! I will not go back to traditional deodorant/antiperspirants. It lasts, so for me, a good value. (I will admit that I dropped it once, and got a small chip, but oh well.....)
