In the middle of a pandemic, something as “standard” as heartbreak and loss, as channeled by a true master, feels oddly comforting... and dang it, I NEEDED to hear this. Like yesterday. So I reordered here and now all is right in the world. Well, hardly. But this absolute tonic of an album does help a bit. A lot bit. While I still enjoy the raucous hits of Fa Fa and Hard to Handle and Tenderness and the like, where Redding shines, to me, is in these pleading, aching tunes. So an entire album of just that? Oh yes and please. The blue vinyl is as deep hued as the vocals, a nice bonus. And while I could do without the gimic of the intentional “ring wear” on the sleeve, the pressing itself is excellent. Great quality, nicely priced too. I find Otis timeless and the fact that the kids these days have embraced vinyl like it’s 1972 all over again,, well, it’s encouraging that less splashy artists like Otis might live on for decades and decades to come. Well, it IS nice to have a whole album of just slow jamz, some of us are die hard Slow Jam Nerds, whatever... Cool lookin cover as well... Wish they'd do this to Sam and Dave too (hint hint...).
