**Q: How do you get rid of the smell after opening them? They smell horrible.**
A: After mine aired out a little while they didn’t smell.

**Q: Is the light one light enough to put around ankles and do side leg lifts and back leg lifts?**
A: I doubt it.  I use them around my thighs and do hip abductions with them.  You could use them for doing sideways leg exercises.  I think if you put them around your ankles and do all the lifts, it would be too tight.  But I do love them.  They stay put where I put them.  Hope this helps you.
