First off, it did not come with a pad so I bought that separately (Mockins?). I don't know that the pack would have slipped without the pad, but with the pad the pack did not slip at all. I used a stepladder to load the pack (after placing the pack on the car) & I took the stepladder with us for unloading/reloading (definitely take your stepladder if you can). The pack itself is made of material that seems durable. The zippers were big & solid. We had no rain, but the zippers are covered by a pretty good size flap & it appeared that the pack would be able to withstand rain. During travel (six hours each way) there was a little more wind noise than normal for our car, but not much; I twisted the straps & that seemed to work to reduce wind noise. I liked that each strap has a velcro piece at the end so you can gather up the slack. Our mileage only diminished by .3 miles per gallon according the car's computer, so that was no big deal. All told it was really nice not to worry about all the bulky stuff & using the pack allowed us more room in the car. Inflatable paddle board, beach umbrella, folding beach chair, gym bag with bike stuff, a bunch of extra towels, dog bed; all of it went on top, no problem. Review: Perfect alternative to a clamshell carrier - We bought this for a snowbird stay in Florida and packed it with more "stuff" than I thought it would hold. It allowed us to travel with our dog in a lightly loaded car interior. It was simple and intuitive to attach to the roof and even though I checked its connections at most stops along the way, it never needed adjusting. (I should also note that I used my cars roof racks and did not attach to the door frames with the special included tabs. Without studying that connection too deeply I did discover that removing the foam padding on my car was not a simple process - it is tightly glued on. I would talk to a Body Shop professional before pulling it away from the frame.) The one issue I did have was loading it up with our things. It is tough to arrange and adjust your gear in a floppy bag on top of your car. The manufacturer shows a more convenient method of loading it on the ground and then hoisting it to your car top. Good idea if you are the Hulk or Gregore Clegane (G.O.T. reference...) but for mere mortals that's not a practical technique. That said, the storage is great, the connect-ability is secure, and my final reason for giving this five stars is that I don't need an entire corner of the attic or basement to store a huge and bulky clam-shell car top carrier that is used only once or twice every couple of years. This is an affordable, sturdy, waterproof, practical way to transport a load of content over substantial distances. ## Features - SAFETY COMES FIRST - RoofPax is the ONLY brand that produces its Car Rooftop Cargo Carriers for maximum safety with the patented 4-door hook straps (included). Performs beyond my expectations. Very solidly built, thick canvas. Strong straps that work perfectly with the luggage rack on our 2011 Tahoe. Zipper is sturdy and protected under overhanging flap that secures on three sides via velcro tab. Top flap seals on three sides with fourth integrated with main body of bag. We were able to easily fit 2 large suitcases, 2 carryon sized cases, 2 small/medium duffle bags, 2 suit bags folded in half and still had a bit of room leftover. Straps emanate from all four sides of the bag and are equipped with 3 prong locking clasps. Straps can be tightened by pulling thru clasps and once done hold the bag and contents very securely to roof of vehicle. If u dont have a luggage rack, the bag comes with clasps that fit and feed under rubber door seals. We traveled from central Illinois to Beaufort, SC, from plains thru foothills and into Smoky Mountains then down into Carolina lowlands and eventually to coast. Tho not deluged, it did rain intermittently throughout trip and all our items stayed dry and secure. We were able to bring a thin foldup step ladder with us, tucked in the very back of the truck at the hatch and this made removal and installation of the bag and contents much easier than had we not, given the height of the vehicle combined with additional height of loaded bag. This was especially helpful given that we broke the trip into 2 segments south and 2 northward and therefore needed to remove and reinstall the bag and contents at each stop. Anyway, I highly recommend this thing. Should something fail, I will report that. I do know that eventually, if used frequently, retreating with waterproofing would likely be necessary. But man, I'm super impressed so far. ## Frequently Bought Together - RoofPax 19 cft.
