Mine has black stains on it. Can I machine wash it?** A: To get rid of black stains on the Big Red Sponge, spray some Optimum Power Clean on it, rub it in lightly, then rinse it out thoroughly, you can also use Optimum FerreX on the sponge, spray it on, let it sit for a minute, then rinse it out thoroughly. The FerreX will break down any contamination in the sponge and restore it. Store the sponge in a bucket of fresh ONR at 256:1 or .5oz of ONR per gallon of water, put an air tight lid on it and you're good to go. **Q: Is it safe to use with 1 bucket only?** A: Yes. That's how it was intended to be used. Keep a grit guard or two in your bucket. Having said that, I would have two buckets, each with their own sponge. One for wheels and one for paint. It appears to work well as long as you use ONR correctly. I soaked it in ONR 256:1 bucket as instructed for 24hrs prior to use and keep it soaking when storing. Rings out easy, foam structure quality is excellent. Size is large but fits in my moderate to large hands fine. Cost is high, wish it were $10, but I can see the premium when I use it. With ONR, I know many just use wash mitts, mf towels, or cheap sponges, but anyone who claims alternatives are as good or better either haven’t used a BRS, or they didn’t follow Optimum’s directions correctly.
