Because I was curious, I put the iron directly on this pad for just a bit (about as long as I would for soldering something) and it did not burn or leave a mark (very cool!). Any hot solder that dripped onto this pad just comes right off. The little storage spots at the top are great for putting things like screws in to help manage those. The mat feels like a good size, and will protect the table while working on projects.
