The outstanding beauty of this piece of furniture is due to it's solid hardwood construction - absolutely no plywood is used. The Personal Altar that is featured in this listing is constructed out of solid Butternut hardwood - harvested locally here in Northern Maine. The completed bench is finish-coated with environmentally-friendly, all natural beeswax finish. Handmade in the USA - my small wood shop is located in the wonderful state of Maine. Butternut is a very soft, light-weight, and 'airy' lumber that has an 'earthy' feel and appearance to it. It is often referred to as 'white walnut' and indeed does have the grain patterns of it's cousin tree, though it is much lighter in color; Butternut has shiny golden and tan shades that deepen under an oil finish. Butternut is a native northern and eastern species that extends it's range up into Northern Maine. It is harvested locally - I get my furniture-grade stock from a small independent sawyer who prepares and dries this Butternut lumber at his small home-based mill. ## Features - Solid Butternut construction (no plywood).
