My job involves working with with people to help them challenge limiting beliefs and establish new ones. Although I don't agree with some of the way affirmations are explained in this book, such as referencing the energy of the universe and the idea of manifesting, I do believe that our self-talk, the messages we give to ourselves, matter. Many of us have internalized negative, harsh, shaming, critical messages from others and now go about either consciously or subconsciously giving those messages back to themselves now. Learning to challenge old stories and old messages that have been internalized and giving our mind new ones to latch on to can be a crucial part of moving on from negative experiences from the past. It can give our mind the flexibility it needs to make different choices and get unstuck. I see a lot of these affirmations as alternative thoughts and beliefs to the more limiting ones. Not all of them will work for everyone, but that is why there are 100 here. Affirmations can be statements of desire, alternative beliefs to practice, and reminders of actions needing to be taken.The affirmations in this book present some good alternatives to thoughts and beliefs about low self-esteem/low self-worth, inappropriate or prolonged self-blame/guilt, nonacceptance of the past, in addition to ones related to non-forgiveness or continued anger toward and blaming others. There are some good ones related to our relationship with love (self-love and other-love) as well, though I didn't like that section of the book as much as the part on forgiveness.Affirmations always need to be tailored to something that your mind can at least partially hold on to and at least partially believe (or partially want to believe). It will be so much harder to practice and reinforce beliefs that you see as being lightyears away from your current thoughts and beliefs. For people who have had really harsh experiences some of these affirmations may be a bit too far away. You can still use them, just need to modify them, for example, "One day I hope to be able to say I am deserving of complete and total forgiveness".I liked the book. There wasn't much prelude to the actual affirmations, but it was clear and concise. The affirmations did stand on their own and I appreciated the breadth of different ones. I think that for people looking for some alternative beliefs and thoughts to practice, this is a good book and gives you the substance right away without having to dig for it. There is positives to getting right to the point, although if you don't know much about how to use affirmations, it might not be as useful.I received the kindle book for free or discounted price in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. I have not been coached or given any additional benefit to post a good review.
