Do you fire the flash whilst holding the meter in front of the subject and it tells you the best settings for the camera?** A: The meter has several modes. When you’re using flash mode, you push a button on the meter and then fire your flash within the next 60 seconds. The meter measures the flash, and its LCD tells you what your camera settings should be. At this point you can scroll through the various combinations of shutter speed and aperture that will deliver the correct exposure. **Q: Is this meant to have a wire with it to connect?** A: If you are using it with studio lights you will need to connect it to your lights to fire the flash in order to take the reading. In my case I used a lead that came with my lights.
