When formatted for APFS on macOS, the speed increases tremendously, as APFS is a modern filesystem that is designed for flash and solid state storage devices. I wrote the same thing on a different one I bought and I still don't know if it's good or not but if I'm doing a real big file transfer and speed slows down I take some canned air upside down and give it a couple squirts of CO2 and the speed picks back up. I've had it for over a year and moved a lot of files and it still works.
