Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates The large pedal of this kill bar is easily activated – both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor – to ensure maximum trapping. Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the rat trap kill bar immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. The rat trap can then be easily disposed of for quick and clean removal. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. For the best results, place the traps near signs of rodent activity or where you suspect rodent activity. These rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2 to 3-foot intervals.

The trigger is now extremely sensitive, yet the overall construction feels weaker. The spring still has plenty of force—in fact, it snapped one of the wooden bases in half—but the trigger mechanism doesn’t set properly anymore. The plastic trigger tab tends to slide down and trip the trap on its own, so I have to set the traps on their side just to keep them armed. Even then, you have to hope they stay set. I never thought a simple rat trap could decline in quality, but it really has. I’d gladly pay a little more for the older, sturdier version. The design used to be reliable, and I wish the manufacturer hadn’t cut corners.

Sturdy, well made, functional for the purpose they are made.. Has a wide paddle to place bait of choice on. Then pull the snap bar back and carefully brace it with the post bar. This is tricky if you do not have steady hands. The trap occasionally snaps when I am in the process if putting it down after setting. No protection for fingers, so only hold this trap around the edges. The wood soaks up some of the blood when a rat is trapped, so clean up is difficult. The rat doesn't always die right away, so triggers me emotionally with strong empathy. These traps are most affordable though, so a necessary evil to those of us who are low income.
